Wawel Dragon is (was) real

This is a very strange thing to describe but there is a real connection between old Polish legend of the dragon that lived under the hill of the Royal Castle and the dinosaurs.

In 2008 the remains of large carnivorous archosaur have been found in southern Poland very close to the location of the legendary dragon. Because this species have not been known before they were named Smok Wawelski (translation: Wawel Dragon).

The relation of Smok to other archosaurs has not yet been thoroughly studied; it may be a rauisuchid, prestosuchid or ornithosuchid crurotarsan (part of the crocodile line of archosaurs) or a theropod dinosaur (part of the bird line of archosaurs). In other words for now we can assume that it is closely related to crocodiles. Now please take a look at the picture below from somewhere between 15th and 16th centuries. It shows a creature that looks like a crocodile on its back.

I will let you draw the conclusions and then post them here or on Facebook.

Now, please support my Kickstarter project that will present the legend to young children in America.
